Hello, welcome to my website.
My name is Paul Smith and I have been a Counsellor since 2010.
I have always understood the importance of talking through problems with someone and as far back as I can remember people have felt able to talk with me and it is something that has always left me feeling good. Connecting with others on a deeper level and helping them is, and always has been, a very important part of who I am.
When I had counselling myself it really helped me, I was quite amazed for the first time I felt heard and understood. I felt free, liberated almost, being given the space to explore and understand myself better, discovering and making the changes that I needed. It was a turning point in my life.
In my late thirties I decided I needed a career change, I was unfulfilled and wanted to do something that more reflected who I was as a person, so became inspired to train as a Counsellor. It has been the most wonderful thing to see the changes it can bring to peoples lives, it is an honour to be with people as they take those steps into self exploration, and sharing the space is , to me, very special.
Doing something that I love to do together with the professional skills I learnt and my years of experience has enabled me to help and support more people move forward with their lives. I offer myself to you as someone who cares deeply about your mental health and well being, who will support you as you navigate your way through whatever is troubling you. I am here because my main motivation is that I care, and love to help people.
Feel free to flick through my website, I hope it answers all your questions, if not, please do get in touch.
Thank you for visiting my website.
How I Work
Person Centred Counselling
I use the Person Centred Approach to counselling. This means I work in a non directive way allowing you the space to dictate the pace and content or our work together, to explore your thoughts and feelings freely without me directing you. Working at your own pace with what you choose to bring will enable you to feel empowered and in control.
I believe that no one knows you better than you know yourself and what your needs are, even if that doesn't feel the case at this time. I also believe in your innate ability to find solutions that are best for you.
I will listen without judgement, with empathy, care and support, helping you guide yourself towards finding the changes you need and how to make them.
Person Centred Counselling is a powerful tool in self exploration and change.
I am a fully qualified and registered member of the BACP, (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), and work within their Ethical Framework. I also have full professional insurance.This helps me maintain a high professional standard to ensure the safety of both my clients and myself. You can find me on the BACP register (No. 173722).
I have been a Counsellor since 2010, in that time I have seen people who have brought many and varied mental health issues. Counselling can help with anything that is troubling us. Personally I have seen people with;
